Thought, Hillsong, and the Motorcycle Squirrel Guy

So another blog.
This one has no deep spiritual motive, it is more to spurn thought within myself.
It's a shame how few people encourage thought these days. There are... 3 people who have ever encouraged me to think.
God Bless them.
Oh wait, he already has.
God rock their face off.
:-)

I got back from Houston yesterday, saw Hillsong United, and to pre-emptively answer your question.
Yea. It was awesome.
Got to meet the band beforehand backstage with about 15 other people, it was pretty cool. I have alot more respect for the band now. They are so humble, they are there for worship, not for anything else.

Phil Dooley spoke. He's my new favorite Australian.
He talked about Harley Davidsons and squirrels.
In the same sentence.
Can you ask for more?
The major point of his message was the complacency of the church-he just used smaller words. Forgive my big-wordage.
(Wordage is in my computers dictionary. Sweet.)
"It seems that the Rock-stars are the ones making a difference in this world instead of the church."
Very true.
I mean, at this point we have heard all this before, but maybe that's God's way of making his point?
Seriously, we hear about it and amen and nod and wait for someone to start some new way to make a difference, we drop a couple extra bucks in a bucket to give some depressed kid a new pair of socks.

We are still missing the point.

The depressed homeless kids in Africa are just a fraction of the mission field.
The mission field starts where you are sitting, and stretches to everywhere you go, to everywhere your influence reaches.
You are called to missions.
Missions is not money in a bucket.
It is you shining your light all around you.
So your reputation precedes not as your reputation, but as one who follows Christ and thus shines his renown wherever you go.

I will get comments on this blog commenting on how good it is and how right I am but if you do that then you've still missed the point. If you post a comment, tell me what you did in your mission field. Tell me what you did to shine.

"AS you are GOING, make DISCIPLES in all nations"

Psalm 78:7

I'm not well known, and I don't have a reputation much...but I've got some friendships, and some influence, and I've been connecting with some people who know they need something...trying to help those people find the shape of the hole in their lives, and we both know that shape.
Sometimes it involves talking about Jesus. Sometimes it's talking about history and philosophy. Sometimes it's tricycles and childhood paranoia. It's all relationships, and it's all missions.
These are things I'm learning. :)

I love what you said jason about missing the point in it all. my heartbeat recently has been around this verse in James, it says "do you think it is without reason that the scripture says that the Spirit He has caused to live within us years jealously" (4:5)
This is AMAZING! The God of the universe put a soul in me, and for some unknown reason He wants me to want to give it to Him. He's the GOD OF THE FRIGGEN UNIVERSE!! Why in the world would He put Himself in the position to sit and wait for me to give my affection to Him? He just placed this soul in me, and now my creator yearns jealously for any affection He can get from me. Wow, that says alot about God's economy. It also says alot about missions strategy. We all know that our satisfaction in God is the best way to glorify Him, we also know that giving people money and building them homes and wells doesn't equal our satisfaction in God. My point is this... the very first step in the whole process is getting hooked on God. After all, its what He wants most. It's what only YOU can give. He doesn't want to guilt you into putting a few bucks in the offering plate. He doesn't want to guilt you into living a "good" life or going on a mission trip to africa. What He wants most.. this is soo intimate... He wants you to know Him and love Him. Thats it. And what follows after you do that is true Christianity. So i think thats the point that everyone is missing. Its just easier to give money or pretend that your an amazing person at church. Its because we thinks thats whats important. Well its not, and Jason thanks for bringing it up, amazing post dude, refreshing.

Do we serve the most amazing God or what? We make Him out to be this bad guy we have to work for, but in reality He's like the most amazing friend ever and all He wants is us to be happy. He's God so He definately knows that He is everything we need. otherwise He wouldn't be all-knowing.. lol. It's all because of Him dude, all because of Him.
